About Nine Muses
Nine Muses is a free library of guides to Greek mythology and the arts. We introduce the Muses and their arts, retell the major myths with what ancient sources actually say, and explore how myth has shaped painting, poetry, music and creative work today. There are currently 18 articles across 3 topics, plus a glossary of 54 terms.
Nine Muses is published by Digital Nebraska, a company that builds websites and digital tools for local and Midwest businesses.
How we write our articles
- Facts — definitions, dates, versions, platform rules and who created which framework — are checked against primary or authoritative sources such as public-domain translations of Hesiod, Homer and the Homeric Hymns, the Perseus Digital Library, and museum collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum. They’re listed and linked at the end of each article.
- Each article shows the date it was last reviewed, and we revisit articles as guidance changes.
- We don’t invent people, quotes, statistics or case studies. Examples are clearly labeled as hypothetical, and we don’t accept payment to mention a product or company.
